Fishing South Fork San Joaquin River
We had a frustrating few days. We left Muir Ranch
and the weather was good, so was the fishing. The
next day it looked like rain and it hit us mid
morning. We got a couple of miles before the
Goddard Bridge and everyone was tired of the
rain. I made the mistake of putting up my tube tent
and laying down in it. It was cold and I cramped
some, I would have been better to have kept
walking. When we got to the big water crossing at
the top of the Goddard Switchbacks I stopped to
put on my zip-offs, but Tom suggested that I wait
till the 2 more small crossings. After the 2nd
crossing I bent over to dress and couldn't get back
up. My back was really messed up. I couldn't stand
up straight or hold my pack. Luckily there was a
camping spot 50 yards down the trail. We stayed
there for 2 days while I laid in bed and took
advantage of the pain killers we had brought. I was
really frustrated with our situation and was scared
as we were 25 miles to get out over Piute Pass,
and 35 miles to get out over Bishop Pass. We
chose to go out the Piute Trail way back a few
miles. Tom packed my bear can and I had a light
pack. By the time we had gotten to the turnoff I
was wishing that we had gone the other way
towards Bishop Pass. I was feeling better but it was
too late now to turn around.
